Hotels with swimming pools

Hotels with swimming pools

Ancient Greeks and Romans  built artificial pools οn purposes of athletic training in the palaestras, nautical games and military exercises. Roman emperors owned private swimming pools in which fish were also kept, therefore one of the Latin words for a pool was piscine( pesche = fish). The first heated swimming pool was built by Gaius Maecenas of Rome in the 1st century BC. Gaius Maecenas was a rich Roman lord being considered the ‘’father’’ of arts.

“Must knows” when visiting Zakynthos for the first time

“Must knows” when visiting Zakynthos for the first time

Are you visiting Zakynthos for the first time this summer? We know that nobody likes getting unpleasant surprises on their holidays. That’s why ZanteHotels4u will give you the most important and useful things you need to know to prepare yourself for an amazing summer on our beautiful island!

v The toilet system on Zakynthos is not as developed as in most other countries. As a result, you can’t throw any toilet paper into the toilet. There are bins next to the toilets where you can throw away your toilet paper. Since this is not a common habit for tourists, you are reminded by the stickers above the toilets.

v Tap water is not drinkable anywhere on the island. You will need to buy water from the supermarket. The price for a six-pack of 1,5 liter bottles is about €1,50-€2,00.
v Zakynthos has quite a lot of mosquitoes. Although they are not dangerous, they surely are annoying. It would be wise to take a spray or cream with you in order to protect yourself from waking up with a lot of bites. If you are already here and you forget to take this with you, you can always buy it in one of the many pharmacies on the island.
v There is no public transport from the airport to other parts of the island. The only way to get from the airport to your accommodation is by taxi or by renting a vehicle yourself.
There are local buses (KTEL) running from Zakynthos Town to other parts of the island, like Laganas, Kalamaki and Tsilivi.
v The tickets for the ferry that goes from Agios Nikolaos (Zakynthos) to Pessada (Kefalonia) are not bookable online. You will just need to drive to the port and buy your tickets on the spot.
v Not all the shops and restaurants in Zakynthos accept credit cards. Although the number of places that do accept them is rising, it’s a good idea to have cash with you anytime.
v The infrastructure in Zakynthos might not be as good as you’re used to at home. Of course you have to note that there are mountains on the island and also hairpin turns. In Greece we drive on the right side of the road.

v Driving around in Zakynthos is a really nice way to explore the island. You only need to realize that the traffic here might be different than in your home country. Some Greek drivers drive like they’re the only ones on the road. You can surely go around the island by car or bike, but just pay attention!
v Most of the Greek drivers don’t pay attention to zebra crossings so they won’t stop for you when you want to cross the road. Be careful that the road is free before you cross it.
v On Zakynthos we have 220V electricity and to charge your devices you will need a continental plug.
v The eating hours of the Greeks are different than in many other countries. On Zakynthos they will eat lunch at about 3 in the afternoon and dinner after 9.
v And last but not least, a tip from locals! If you wish to visit Zakynthos town, we would like to advice all women not to wear heels on the square. The tiles will give you a hard time, trust us…

ZanteHotels4u hopes now nothing is in the way to spend unforgettable holidays on our island!
